Blazing heat in Oklahoma
Golden fields and windswept grass
I stopped along the shimmering highway
To check the map and pump some gas
Churning windmills, farms and fences
Built on arid prairie soil
Saw luminous thunderclouds gather ahead
They scudded, whirled and started to boil
My radio hissed and the gas pumps went dead
DANGER IN THE SKY
Heaven turned from blue to green
Tornado passing by
Echoes on the radar screen
Thunder, lightning, hail and rain
Raged across the western plains
Sirens wailed, debris sailed high
DANGER IN THE SKY
Chaos filled the crowded city
People shocked by nature's wrath
Rubble, glass and sparking wires
Strewn along the damage path
Tanks exploded, roofs were torn
Trees were snapped and cars were thrown
I followed the supercell, tried to get near
I approached the rain-wrapped mesocyclone
When I noticed a change in the atmosphere
(Chorus)
Spellbound, I looked at scenes from a nightmare
Funnels danced on the glowing horizon
Tearing down the walls of civilization
The eeriest sight I'd ever laid my eyes on
In the spectral light I began to see
I was part of the storm and it was part of me
(Chorus)
